When using my Canon A-1 film camera, I will normally set the camera on manual, set a shutter speed, and then meter various areas of the frame with the camera. This usually will give me a good idea of the proper aperture setting, especially for scenes with both bright and dark elements.
I have been unable to figure out how to do the same thing with the G-1. It appears that the best I can do is look at the LCD screen and change the speed and aperture settings until the image appears properly exposed. When taking pictures in bright light, it is a little difficult to properly judge the exposure from the screen. I'd appreciate any suggestions on how to use the G-1 to meter the exposure. |

you could just switch to Tv, set a speed, and do your metering, then switch back to manual to apply the settings you determine.

Not sure why Canon disconnected the metering in this situation but we are stuck with it! So you can take a meter reading in one of the other modes and then transpose it onto the manual settings or if you are like me use a hand held meter.
