Default Serious beginner

Hello all! This is my first post, although I have been a member for some time now. I have been reading a lot and trying to learn. I have some friends that are in a band and they asked me to shoot some pics for them today for the cover of their demo CD. Here is one that I really liked, nevermind the framing. I was playing in Photoshop and ended up with this. Please feel free to comment and provide any suggestions.

Nice shot. This may not be what they are looking for in a CD cover but I think that this is a great shot for a b/w treatment. You have image editing OK so I took the liberty:

I also cropped a bit off the bottom so they are closer to the bottom of the frame...

Might be a nice shot for the "rear cover"- something similar for the front except they are turned around.

The first thing I noticed was where their arms/hands were relative to their bodies.
I immediately thoughth they were going to the bathroom.
Is this just me or did anyone else think the same thing at a quick glance?

Not just you Kato. I had to do a double take too heh. I agree with hawk911 btw, that this might not be good for a front cover, but would be a good idea for a rear cover and having the front one in same place/pose but facing camera.

I thought the same thing when I uploaded the pic for the first time. But the more that I look at it, I seem to like it.

I have talked about this with them, and they wanted a pose such as this for the back cover. Sort of a "we're done and going home" idea.

Thanks for the replies

Todd, thank you for the b&w conversion, I think it looks better this way. Especially with the crop at the bottom

A country band ... "Rascal Flatts" uses photos with some really great looking cross-processing. I think this photo could work as a cover with that effect. Give it something more... There isn't really a whole lot here that grabs your attention as it is. As a CD cover... you'd want a square aspect ratio... so I cropped it like that. You could put text in the black areas... artist and album name.. that sort of thing. What do you think of this?

In the first shot, it looks like the third guy from the left is standing in front of a sign post or something. It took me a while to figure out it is a guitar he's holding.

I think these could benefit from some depth and perspective. Meaning put them at different distances from the camera. One or two guys up front larger in frame and the others further away smaller in frame. I would compress the shots by getting in closer to them as well. As close as two or three feet from the first guy and no more than 10 from the furthest one. Maybe shoot from a lower angle up at them. This will give more emphasis on the people rather than the scenery. I assume thats what you are going for.

Just some ideas to chew on.

Thanks. I like the processing on this one. I'm not real proficient with Photoshop yet. I have a lot to learn.

Thanks for the ideas. Like I said, I'm just learning and trying to soak up all of the suggestions and ideas that I can. Thanks again.
