Hi ok I've already got a good tripod; the Slik 500 or something... now the only problem is that it has that pole going up through the middle so that you can raise for extra length... but that means that I can't get those "ant eye" shots or the really low macro photos... The problem comes thought as I would love to be able to, if possible, to have my bigma mounted on it... which ways a fair bit... 1.842KG I believe...
So does anyone know of a tripod that will allow pretty much a ground level shot but also hold the bigma...? Thanks for any help

Not sure which Gitzo model it is (go to www.bhphoto.com) but there's at least one that will hold that which also has an off center column that bends every which way.

try the Manfrotto 055 pro, the column comes out and mounts horizontally, also has a short centre column to mount at about 4" i think. 6KG loading also. the 055 regular doesn't have these features i think. Try amazon, i think a market place seller does it for about £90 in black.

I use a Gitzo Explorer G2220 which can adjust every which way with a rotating center column. You can put the column at just about any angle from straight up to almost straight down. I'm sure the Bigma would be no problem since I use my Sigma 500 f/4.5 on it which is a lot heavier.

A bunch of tripods have reversible columns. For instance, my G1257. I think any Gitzo or Gitzo knockoff with a rapid column allows reversible column.
