Default I think it's true...

Yea,...I think it's legit ....

I saw that same information at 17th St Photo's site here:

http://www.17photo.com/product.asp?id=2577A002

That rebate only applies to the "USA" lenses .... not the imported ones.

In a related question:
Someone please tell me the difference in the "imported" Canon 100-400 and the Canon USA 100-400 lenses .....

The imported lens is cheaper - are they cheaper because they're inferior to the USA more expensive lens, or what??

But the rebate amounts help to get the USA version closer to the cost of the imported lens.....

The imported are items not intended for US use and DO NOT carry a US warrantee. They come with an int'l warrantee, though. Ok, so in a nushell, a European version sold in the US is an imported one, also known as grey market. There isn't any difference in quality, just intended market.

A slighly better discription, if I might add...and pilfer this as it was...
Grey Market goods, are made for export to countries outside the USA. They are either bought by a retailer in the country they were supposed to ship to and resold in the USA or change hands in a port, without ever actually going to another country. Functionally, they are usually the same as the non Grey Market goods except for minor cosmetic differences, like a different name. They are usually cheaper then their non Grey Market cousin and that's why people buy them. There is usually No Manufacturer's Warranty associated with them. Any warranty is from the merchant you bought them from. That warranty is usually substantially shorter then on the non Grey Market item. They may not have a manual in English and the manual may be a photocopy as opposed to a bound text. If you choose to go the Grey Market route, buy from a major, reputable retailer with a reputation for reliable service / repair work.

"In "Some" cases a grey Market item may have a limited warranty regardless, as some products have an international warranty included exclusive of any warranty for a specific country.
But this is the exception to the rule where in most cases you will have no warranty from the manufacturer at all if you buy grey market.
Lastly, there are third party "depot" warranties that may be bundled with a grey market product, or available at an optional charge. One such common depot warranty service is MACK."

I'm trying real hard to believe this, but wouldn't there be some note from Canon on the Web about this? Otherwise, it looks like April Fools to me. B&H doesn't have anything about rebates on their site.

Well, now to see if there are any of these that I don't already have that I can't live without. But the size of the rebates is not that high, so unless Canon allows double or triple like the last one, the rebates are not compelling.

Meanwhile, I'm still waiting for the last ones. Has anyone gotten their rebate checks from the one that ended in January?

Have Fun

No, I haven't received the rebate checks yet, but I did get email confirmations on all of them.

I expect the rebate is legit. It sounds enough like the last one to be believable.

Go to http://www.keh.com/shop/class.cfm?bi...p;crid=7304808 and click on either lenses or zooms - the rebate information will be in the right-hand column.

Or, go to http://www.canogacamera.com/e/env/00...nk=/index.html and click your way to Canon's lenses.

The rebate is real. I apologize for discovering this on April first, as it does look suspicious.

BTW, anybody here ever deal with Canoga camera? Are they good?

Re: Canoga Camera.

They're good people. I often stop in their store on Sherman Way, and I've bought a fair amount of gear from them in the last year. The sales people are helpful, knowledgeable, and they have pretty good inventory, although not the depth that you'll find with places like B&H. I certainly recommend them.

Thos.

Well thanks, Thos! I may be dealing with them real soon - like about 12 hours ago.
