This is the only shot I managed to get whilst camping for my DOE Silver in the Breacon Beacons, Wales. As this was my training session I wasn't allowed to take photographs during the actual walk, also my rubbish-flaky-ramshackled-tripod broke down so I had even more trouble: I could only take a horizontal shot; so I had to zoom out to around 20mm to include the sky, and I took 5 shots. Stitching is meant to be done for vertical photographs taken at a focal length where the distortion is low (so either a prime or mid-way on a zoom), hence I had HORRIBLE distortions at the side and stitching them together was nightmare (hate two leave two shots behind).

Still, nevermind. My practise session is in two weeks (and I have allready ordered a proper Manfrotto tripod with Head).

17-50mm f/2.8 (@ 22mm x 3)
f/11
1/6

Edit:

Here is the same shot where I exposed for the sky:

Nice panos, both of them. It's nice to see two different versions of the same scene both working so well!

However I'm a little surprised by the difficulties you had stitching it. I have a 350D and have made panoramas using an 18mm lens. What software are you using?

I stitched it manually in PS. On the one exposed for the land; the lamp post on the first was curving to the right and on the second it was curving to the left. So I had to rotate it a bit and change the perspective to get it work.

Thanks for the comment

Ah. That would explain it! If you use stitching software such as AutoStitch or PTAssembler (both of which are free) then they will correct the distortion and allow you to use wide-angle lenses in your panoramas.

Ah. I see I was used to the inferior quality of the PS one that I trained myself to do it manually. Now I can go even wider! Gosh 10 shots at 17mm

Thanks
