I know this is going to come off the wrong way but here goes.
I am looking at wideangle and tele lens' and want to know opinions on a few diff. brands. The wideangle would be Digital Optics 0.42X AFand the telephoto would be a Tokina 3X. Does anyone have any expierence with either of these on a S3? Or would I just be waisting my money. |

I've had good experience buying from these guys back when I had an S1. I just picked up and S3 and will likely order their telephoto adapter shortly.

I haven't had experience with either, but as the owner of the Sony tele lens (Sony VCL-DH1758) I can highly recommend that lens as an alternative to the one you're considering.

Im pretty sure I know the ones you are thinking of. I got a set off ebay in the fall with a Bower .42 and a Tokina 3x.
DONT get the Tokina 3x tele. Its a waste of money. It doesnt combine well with the S3 lens and gives pretty bad results. The .42 is great though, if you like really wide. It fisheye's at full wide (which I REALLY love) but you have to zoom in to get rid of the vignetting. If it is the one I am thinking of, the barel of the lens screws off and gives you a really powerful macro lens (with a very thin DOF). This lens gives crisp pictures with the S3 and is a very good match. Just to be sure, you saw these on ebay right? My suggestion is, if you like fisheye's, really wide lenses, and macro, the .42 is a good lens. But try to find it alone and not combined with the Tokina. You will never use the Tokina with your S3.

For a WA the Raynox DCR-6600Pro is a good bet, doesn't show as much barrel-distortion as in the examples show at lensmate.com. I recommend a seldom mentioned but, IMHO, the best TC suitable for a S3 is the Nikon TC-E15ED 1.5x. The Nikon consistently produces sharper and cleaner images than my Sony VCL-HD1578....and it costed me less than the Sony. Right now thou, about the only constant source of this fine lens is on Ebay.

I purchased the Tokina 3X lens on eBay....planned to use it on my S3 but it doesn't work. You can't get it to focus correctly...very frustrating. Stick to the lens that Lensmate.com reviews. I learned my lesson.
