Default Grand Canyon Skybridge anyone?

Hi All

I heard about this on the BBC news here in the UK, has anyone been there yet and got some images to share?

The way they have made it sounds quite something for those who can cope with heights, glass floor over a drop all the way to the bottom ~ I think they said the drop was 4000ft, phew?

It opens for the public only on the 28th March. The snaps on the websites make it look interesting. Maybe on my next trip to a place I cant seem to resist going back to

Ah! thanks for the date check, I am clearly asking a little too soon for images to share.

I am sure some POTNers will get there (?) sometime soonish

I honestly don't think it looks that good (for photography). First its $25 just to go on it, second I personally can't see any photos being better through their thick glass. If I was there I would drive by and pull over down the road and probably get a better photo

Fair comment about taking through the 5 (?) layered glass floor but the sidepanels look at approx high chest or shoulder height so I wonder that even at $25 it might be worth it for the different perspective it could offer, though you would not want drop anything over the side

I just don't see the point. The thing looks ugly, ruins the view and adds nothing. I have no interest in anything other than a photo of the first person that jumps off it.

I spoke to Jon and Jim about it last Sat. I get the feeling the area it is in is not the best part of the park anyway. The local Indian tribe is spending over $40 million to get this done to attract tourists. I know my family is planning a trip to the Canyon sometime next year. We would be interested in going. But for $800 we can take a helicopter ride all around the Grand Canyon and that would be money better spent, IMO. I feel bad because it may be a good money maker for the tribe, but it is really ugly from all angles. The view across and down are supposed to be once in a lifetime experiences, but I'm afraid of heights and a foot of glass is not going to take that fear from me.

Initially I was under the impression that the area inside the hoop was all glass. Not so, the only area that is glass floor is the area between the 2 hoops (inner & outer hoop), an area about 4' wide. Also the $25 is just to get into the skybridge, there is also a $50 charge to get into the indian reservation where this bridge resides.

Let alone the 4" thick glass that the skybridge has!

And do not kid yourself that it wont happen, I have read of people jumping from real secure places, and the way this thing looks it is a breeze, pardon the pun.

I agree that it does not offer anything you cannot already see, it makes the whole thing look ugly spoiling the real view and natures offering. And as soon as someone jumps they will either close it for good or have to build a higher fence, or domed glass cover which will really make the thing ugly as hell.

I realize that some of the native american tribes in the area are going to benefit somewhat from the profits, but I do not see that as justification for it. Besides at $25 a pop to take the walk I do not see much action happening after the first few take a look and start spreading the disappointment. I mean look at it as it is they had to bring in an Astronaut that has been in space to promote to try and increase the exposure or lack thereoff.

I was there in July 2005, and I remember the location and the drawing of the bridge project then. If I remember correctly, I don't think you could get anything interesting to shoot from inside the glass confinement. I was actually thinking that it'd be kinda cool to shoot the bridge itself from outside as an interesting architecture.
