I have been online checking prices on a new 30D. I am finding a very wide price difference between companies. The prices for a 30D (body only) seem to fall in the $600-ish to $1200-ish range. Why such a difference?

Use a reputable vendor such as B&H, Adorama, or Canoga Camera, as a benchmark. You'll probably notice less than a $50 swing. Anybody undercuts that and I'd be wary.

$600 - Royal Camera? CCI? It's a scam. You ask for the body only kit, they LITERALLY give you only the body. Then you have to buy the charger, the manuals, the software, the battery, and so on. So by the time you're done, it's the same price. OR, they ask if you want a 512mb memory card for $200, and when you say no to all this, they charge your CC and never send you the merchandise. You call the camera store, they say they shipped it, and so forth. Heard it a million times. Buy from an authorized dealer, you'll save yourself the headache.
