Default Gloss paper vs Lustre paper

Do you know what is the difference between this two types of paper?

These guys http://www.streetsimaging.com.au/ have two separate price lists for Lustre paper and Gloss (or Metallic) paper.

So I don't know the difference.

glossy paper has a super shiney, smooth finish. Lustre is of a shineyness between glossy any pure matt (which is pretty flat and non-reflective).

Thanks for the input. I would like less reflection. So I would go with lustre.

There's different grades of each paper, so it might be worth going into a print/computer accessory (or at least a decent stationery ) shop and experiencing it for yourself.

When I'm printing at home, I use semi-gloss...

Get samples first, I loved lustre but the prints just didn't seem to be as sharp looking as the glossy equivalents. I've stopped using it.

Thanks guys. Sounds like I should get one each.

As a litho printer i'll give you my opinion. Lustre is a dull matt finish made of soft clay. It is prone abrasion and scratch. It does produce a nice soft effect on the printing ink litho or otherwise. A true gloss is an enamel actually latex finish and is a more durable paper coating. If i was into printing my own I would go to a commercial printer and buy a nice 60 or 80 pound text enamel. like Northwest gloss or Centura.

I do all mine locally though I've heard great things about white house custom color for on-line printing (www.whcc.com) and for less costly prints I've heard MPIX or Snapfish is the way to go.

Do a search for Red River Paper I use their glossy paper and have been very satisfied with the results.
