Default New to Birding... C/C Welcome

My wife keeps telling me to shoot birds and flowers... I'm a little reluctant, but she wants to market them. Let me know what you think of a couple I went out and took. Thanks. (please pardon the PS compression)

Well if you are gonna take shots like that.... i think I'd listen to your wife. Fantastic shots of a skittish bird, love the whole composition and dof on this as well, great detail. I dont have one up to par with these yet. Keep them coming and welcome to the bird forum.

Great shots! I ditto your wife and bromm.

The only thing I can see on #1 is there are 2 big blades of grass/plant that seems to be another pair of legs coming from his rear end. It could only bug me though

Thanks so far guys... Christel, I did no processing other than WB and adding the "mats", but thanks for pointing that out... I'll be sure to get rid of them.

Well that is a good start! I prefer the second one for the composition. In the first the top right branch poking in should be cloned out (at least in a marketing point of view...) and the angled fence (?) in the BG make it seem like the photo is slightly tilted, even if it is not (again thinking market-wise here). What I love most about these two shots are the long flowing plumes contrasting beautifully against the long pointed leaves of the vegetation.

Very nice images. All of my heron shots have been against bare branches. The green adds a nice touch to the photos. Well done.

welcome to the bird forum amon. Those are great shots of the heron. Bird photo is an addiction you might enjoy. If you take any more shots like these you'll find yourself loading cards full of feathers all the time. Have fun.

Thanks for all the great replies guys... it's very encouraging.

If my wife reads this, I'm doomed to birdville.

Thanks dancad... I thought the branch added to the image IMO. However, I probably cropped too much out.

Maybe these images will make more sense out of the bulkhead. These are different images altogether. (not a diff crop) Again, I need to clone out the "green legs". These only have the WB and crop - no processing really.

If you market shots like these, it will be tough for the rest of us that would like to sell something. Considering this, I think you should stay out of the bird image business.
