Default Not a photography topic... unlock your cell phone

Hey, lots of photographers have cell phones. If you want to buy a cheap one, go to eBay. If you want to unlock it to use it with any provider then go to the following site. I unlocked my Nokia here.

I know this is going to be a stupid question but what does it mean when you "unlock" your phone?

When you purchase a cell phone contract, they provide a phone that has their program in it... Unlocking allows you to take your phone to a competitor and use their service. And I suspect the competitor has all the codes needed to unlock your phone without you having to go to a web site.

Yes, that what I would have thought. That's why I was a little confused about the original post.

Thanks.
