Default Got my blurb book today...comparing Blurb and My publisher....

here we go..I said I would let you all know what I think...

I am comparing the Mypublisher pocket book 7x5 to the hardcover Blurb 7x7

Here are my issues..

I like both of their templates and pages. I did both with black pages and they are nice...

Blurb puts it's logo on the first page...I wrote to them today to ask if it can be removed. if I mark up the books I don't want the people I sell to, to be able to know my mark up.

Blurb is a nice hard cover...BUT..it does not print on the cover, it uses a dust jacket cover and prints on that, with inside flaps...pretty cool, but with me and three other people touching it, it already has finger prints on it, and it wont' last long. I wonder what their soft cover is like?

Blurb took longer to arrive. But I can wait as long as I know I am waiting.

Mypublisher cover is a linen with a cut out and a picture or something you pick from templates that they have, I think it looks a bit cheap, but better then a dust cover.

so..those are issues..

I apologize for repeating questions that may have already been asked and answered in other threads, but . . .

Does the MyPublisher book have their name or logo anywhere on/in it?

How do the images and quality of the pages compare (to each other as well as to other books you have had a chance to look at)?

i like the printing from mypublisher compared to the blurb. i went with the classic leather cover from mypublisher, which imo looks better than the linen one they offer.

My publisher was fast on delivery and customer service, answering my emails within the day i wrote them, I am still waiting on blurb to respond.

I will check and see if the small one comes in leather. I wanted to use the smaller one for my sports photograpphy. I really like the 7x7 size...it's cute, but will try a copy of the 7 x 5 from mypublisher to see how I like that one.

Anyone using a mac to make a my publisher book ?

Are you happy with their software?
Is it similar to using iphoto ?
Can I design a background photo, with one or more photos overlaid on the same page?

I dont want to download the software if I can design the pages the way I have been, by using CS2 . I have templates already for CS2. But it does take alot of time designing with it.

Thank you

I have to say that I personally preferred the shutterfly books.

Hardcover (either suede or Leather.. your choice) You pic a picture for the front which is printed on the very first page. The front hardcover has a window cut out that lets the pic show through.

Their layouts are nice too. Great album for the price (if you are looking for something in the Blurb/My Publisher class)

I checked out shutterfly....they have a nice 8x8 book...It would be nice if they had a sports template..but I can work with the blue..I may make a book just to check itout nd see if I like it compared to what I have here...

I have to say, that's why I like Asuka.

All of these companies, Blurb, Shutterfly, MyPublisher, and even Wal-Mart, CVS, and Walgreens will make a linen hard cover book, and they advertise them quite heavily. So if I'm selling a MyPublisher "type" book my clients can easily find out how much it costs me to produce it and/or decide to produce it themselves.

And Shutterfly especially has some nice products. My wife's best friend is always making calendars, greeting cards, etc from the photos I take of her daughter...

I've not yet seen anything that competes with the full bleed cover that Asuka makes (at least not that's available to consumers), so by using Asuka, I'm giving my clients something they can't get somewhere else.

Hi jamie,

the only thing I saw was the blurb actually put a logo on the inside of the book, I don't know about the others but mypublisher does not do that..so...I am not sure how a person would know where you go it.

I am going to use these for the action shots I will be taking for a baseball league, so Asuka will be out of their price range for that...So...I keep looking.

I ordered a Blurb book to use as an option for folks that want their proofs in a printed form. With 600 images from most weddings it's a little pricey to print them all, and most of the book companies charge an arm and a leg for a book that sized (100 pages). Blurb was very affordable. They messed up the books requiring me to send them back for reprint, but they were perfect for proof books.

On the suggestion of someone from another forum, I ordered the Blurb books with an extra page. Since the logo appears on the last page, I can just cut it out of the book before delivering it to my clients.

I wrote them about that logo...so I am hoping to get a favorable response..but

Isn't that a clever idea...however, mine was not on the back page...it was on page 2..and I just looked and it is on the back page too..so...forget it, if they wont' let me remove it, I won't use them...I can't.

Mine didn't have a logo on the 2nd page. Maybe it's something new...

WIth blurb you can delete the second page with the logo. You can also pay a few bucks more and have the logo on the last page replaced with your own. For the your logo thing you need the most current beta software I think it's v 1.77

Hmm...I wonder if they will explain that to me, if they ever write back? I liked the blurb, but not that logo...I will have to check what download I have..

Thanks so much

I also chekced out asuka..and for a 20 page smaller book it is only like 37 dollars..so, that is not a big deal either...so we will see...I have to decide pretty soon...
