Question PS Problems and Corel PS Pro issues

Hi, since my computer was "repaired" recently it regularly shuts down whilst using PS Elements (I have tried versions 2.0 and 5.0 and it keeps happening). As a stopgap I started using Corel PS Pro but my file sizes are half what I would expect when using PS despite image sizes being approximately A4 with 300PPI, this is not likely to impress my stock library... Has anyone else had problems with PS Elements shutting their computer down in the middle of functions and managed to solve it? Alternatively, can anyone tell me how on Earth I can get Corel PS Pro to save my TIFs at 24 mb as I would expect rather than 12 mb? I am using an EOS 20D, shooting RAW, converting to TIF in Rawshooter and then using PS Elements or Corel PS Pro to tweak. When using Corel I am converting to 8Bit RGB before saving. My computer is running XP Home, SP II.

Thanks.

Has this only happened since you installed Elements 5? There's been a few reports of this program crashing.

I assume your using Windows XP? Right click on the my computer icon, and choose the advanced tab. Click the startup and recovery button, and take the tick out of the box for Restart. Next time the program plays up, have a look in windows Event Viewer, and see what it says.

Thanks, I'll give that a go. Elements 2.0 and 5.0 both have the same problem, I've uninstalled/reinstalled both several times with no improvement. Hopefully the Event Viewer should help to solve the mystery.

Is Corel saving the tif files with compression switched on? That would explain the difference in file size...

Oops! Thanks PXL8, you're right, that WOULD explain the small file sizes... I've never had to adjust that before when using PS so I didn't think of it! Thanks again.
