http://www.dpreview.com/news/0704/07...os400dfirm.asp Canon http://www.canon.co.jp/Imaging/eosdi...irmware-e.html firmware update (Version 1.0.5) incorporates the following fixes and improvement.: 1. Fixes the printing of lens names when using PictBridge. 2. [Redeye 1] can now be selected when connecting with specific printers. 3. Improves the reliability of communication with the Speedlite 380EX. This firmware update applies to cameras with firmware versions up to 1.0.4 installed. If your camera's firmware is already version 1.0.5, it is not necessary to perform this update.

Thanks for the links Chris.
Not much of an update tho... I don't think I'll bother EDIT: its true that Canon may have sneaked in some bug fixes. Even though I don't have the "exposure problem" I will update just in case there is something else in there.

Just updated. No noticable difference (since I don't use direct print, it's painfully slow with my printer). First time I tried (with a CF reader) it failed with an error message in a big yellow box and I had to take out the battery. Second try with the EOS Utility worked like a charm.

LMAO. So much fuss was being made about this on othetr boards. They had it fixing everything from under exposure to the Arab/Israeli crisis. What a non-event!

Well, at least now someone can try to reverse engineer it and add features.

Is it advisable to upgrade the firmware even if the fixes are not relevant to me in the fact that I do not use pictbridge and I do not have a 380 flash?

It could be. Some manufacturers tend to slip in minor bug fixes etc. to firmware updates, but don't necessarily advertise the fact. I don't know whether Canon does this, but no doubt some of the more tech-savvy people here will.

I agree. I've read on some German forums that the 1.05 firmware might solve the underexposure problem which some 1.04 DSLR's have.
