Default My first try at Senior pictures

This was my first try at Senior pictures. I was a nervous wreck by the time it was over but at least we got about 20 shots that I was happy with. Is that the norm for everyone else take 200 and get 10% you can use or do you get better the more you do it. I would like to take fewer shots and get better ones than these.

Shots look good, the colors look a little off but that could be my monitor.

Not your monitor. I haven't had time to redo them. She's picking what she wants this week. The first one is too red and the other one has a green tint. I guess from all the foliage.

I'd say it's not too uncommon at first to take a ton of shots and only come out with a handful that you're really happy with. heck, some pros may still do that, I don't know.
To improve on that, I'd say slow down with the shooting and think about each shot more. I find myself firing off more shots when the person I'm photographing is doing their own thing and I'm trying to focus on not missing a moment, than I would if I were directing more. That's not a bad thing, though, because the spontaneous shots could turn out to be the best of the bunch.
Just focus on making sure you understand the light metering and camera settings to get good exposures and the rest will come with practice.

As for the samples you've posted, I think they look fine (disregarding the color cast you're aware of). My main criticisms would be to watch your horizon (the first shot has a leaning tree that I imagine should be straight up) and in the 2nd, her right hand looks slightly out of place to me since there's just a hand on the tree and her arm is bent such that it doesn't really look like it's attached to her.
Aside from that, very nice job and keep at it

Getting that spontaneous smile was probably the most difficult thing. I noticed she would clinch her teeth in a lot of good shots but it just wasn't her smile. My wife did manage to get her to smile in a couple that really looked natural. Her mom was also trying to direct some poses that really didn't work out well but we took them anyway cause she was paying.
