Default s330 not always taking picture

We just recently got an S330 for traveling. Fairly often the camera does not take a picture when the shutter button is pushed. Seems to hang for some reason, then after waiting a bit it takes a picture when depressing the shutter button.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Not sure if this is a peculiarity of the camera, our technique or a problem

Thanks for insights

What are the conditions? Does it happen in all shooting modes? All the time? Or just some of the time?

Have you checked that your shooting mode is not set to 2-second timer in any of the modes? I know it sounds silly, but sometimes the simplest things are the ones we overlook.

My wife leaves it on auto all the time. It seems to happen when auto flash is on as well as in daylight without flash.

Pressing the release may not work, then after cursing for a couple of seconds the next time the release is pressed it works fine.

That's the frustration, there seems to be no consistent set of circumstances. If there were I could trouble shot by changing parameters until the problem went away.

Yeah, it sounds like faulty electronics, then. If two consecutive clicks have different results, then something's probably wrong with the shutter release button. It's the same basic technology you'll find in an alarm clock or a remote control--a few insulated layers that, when pressed, complete a circuit. I can't see it improving on its own, so you'll probably want to exchange the camera.

Out of curiousity, does the AE lock always work when you half-press the release? Or is that erratic as well?

The AE lock seems to be involved in the problem in that when pressing half way to lock the exposure and then pressing the rest of the way sometimes the picture does not take, however pressing completely takes the picture.

Perhaps that is the problematic area, the AE or AF are somehow blocking the exposure.

Thanks for the suggestion.

I do think that a trip to the camera store is in order.

(will have to wait for wife to return from trip...)
