Default AA Baseball (Eastern League): First Try With 30D (56K Warning)

I just upgraded from a Canon S2 to Canon 30D a few weeks ago. I just received my telephoto lens late last week and couldn't wait to try it out (Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 DG w 1.4X TC). C&C welcome.

Thanks for looking. - Will

#1 - Trevor Plouffe - New Britan Rock Cats

#2 - Collin Balester (Washington Nationals Top Prospect)-

#3 - Steven Pearce - Altoona Curve - Currently 2nd in MiLb w/12 HR's

#4 - Yoslan Herrera - Altoona Curve

#5 - Neil Walker - Altoona Curve

#6 - Play at the plate
Andrew McCutchen (Pirates top prospect) was thrown out at home. He was tagging up on a ball hit to RF. Frank Diaz made a great throw.

#7 - Play at 3rd
Steven Pearce was thrown out trying to advance to 3rd. I think Frank Diaz made this throw too.

#8 - Josh Whitesell - Harrisburg Senators - Broken Bat

Good stuff here. I enjoyed them very much. Where in proximity were you on the field? And, I assume all of these were with the tc? Only one I see with problems is #7. Not sure what went on there, but on my screen seems really out of focus. I've been contemplating on the canon one like this, nice to see some comparison shots. Thx

Nice pics, good light, color, action, etc. I'm not a fan of shooting in Harrisburg, those blue dugouts with no protection, just asking for a foul ball to the grill.

I just ditched the Sigma 70-200 for a Canon 2.8 IS version, and though haven't even got a real chance to use it do have to say it's sharper than the Sigma by a bit - though my Sigma was/is great, verrrry sharp. I bought the Canon for the IS cuz of the NHL, the local arena just isnt comfortable and sometimes flailing around and not to steady.

Thanks for your feedback. All of these shots were with the TC but I could have took it off and would have been fine. I was pretty much all over the field. I have a press pass so I just kind of float around. The play at 3rd was shot from the 1st base side almost even with the bag. 1, 2, 3, 4 & 8 where shot from the 3rd base side, guessing somewhere near the bag. 5, 6 & 7 were from the 1st base side , near the bag.

As for #7, after the upload it does look out of focus on my screen too. Not sure what caused it but the original is fine and even prints in focus.

Thanks for the feedback. I really don't like the blue dugouts either.

So far I love the Sigma. At some point I might upgrade to the Canon version but this will do for now.

Nice pics. I also have a Sigma 70-200 and so far have been very please with it, but the color and contrast seem a little flat compared to the Canon.

How difficult is it to get a press pass for Harrisburg?

I'm shooting for a Nationals website and they actually requested the pass for me. I'm not sure what they had to go through to get it.

nice job, the plouffe photo is a great shot. I'm a little jealous
because of your close access and lighting. I'm usually stationed
at the end of what seems to be the world's longest dugouts...

BTW: shooting for a website is a great way to get started...

I typically use PS CS2 to edit and resize images. I was away from home and did not have access to PS. The only programs I had were Photofilter and MS Photo Editor to edit the images. I think the problem came when I sharpened them in Photofilter; I must have over sharpened them.

The reposted version of the image was completely done in PS (resize and edit).

Nice shots. Brings back memories of playing at Harrisburg while I was with the Reading Phillies. We spent many nights after games at a place called The Spot - or something like that.

RonnieA:

Thanks for the feedback. The Spot is still there. I have lived in the area for 30+ years and have never ate there. Some locals would consider that a crime. I think anyone that visits Harrisburg stops there. Glad I could bring back some memories for you. When did you play for Reading?

'92-94.

Harrisburg's '93 team (Montreal affiliate back then) was one of the best minor league teams ever - http://web.minorleaguebaseball.com/m...100.jsp?idx=73.

I remember Curt Schilling made a rehab start at Reading and the first pitch he threw Rondell White hit a rocket over the centerfield fence. Unlike other big leaguers who made rehab appearances at Reading, Schilling wasn't very friendly to us minor league low lifers - though he did buy us a nice post-game spread. So, I must say, I gave a little snicker when Rondell took him deep.
