Default Being harassed at work (part 3 haha)

Geeze oh man...yep. this is the third time. So my boss wanted me to help hMm shoot before prom pics, I agreed. He's photographing the dates with the backround while in the small gym while i photograph the dates in the big as they are announced where the parents are located. Everything goes well. Then it comes. I stand infront of the dates where I should be. nothing bad. Parents then start yelling "get out of the way etc". I then yelled bck "Im shooting for _____Photography. Another photographer who is a complete amateur with I beleive was the 5d, 24-70mm L, and 20D 70-200MM IS starts yelling at me as I'm just doing it for fun, I wasn't. I then continue and then he comes down stairs and touches me to shove me a little bit. I told my boss about it after the whole shoot was done., I saw him and pointed him to that guy..He didn't do anything but what should I do? I felt like telling the guy "Leave me alone, One more time I will contact my boss". but the thing is if he would of kept harassing me I would of missed a few dates, then that adds to the dilema "Why did you miss them dates Paul? Paul: Becasue this guy kept harassing me and could'nt do my job accordingly" Boss: Just ignore him.

"Excuse me, sir, but I am working for the studio hired to shoot these photos. I don't think you intend for me to lose my job, because you want to take photos yourself, do you? If you have an issue, talk to my boss in the other gym." Then ignore the jerk. If her persists in touching you to move you, tell him, "If you touch me again, I will press charges with the police!"

A “talk to my boss” is all that’s needed, and then ignore him. If he persists, ask whoever is doing crowd control to get him out of there. If he still persists and touched you, and no one is going to do anything, I agree with Wilt, warn him that you will get the cops involved and do so if he doesn’t back down. It may be that he thought you were like him and just taking pics for fun but even so, that’s no excuse for him to be an a-hole. Unfortunately, there are many around these days.

The moment he 'touched' you it became common assault and all the power was transferred to you. If you had already made your point known ie: you're hired to shoot the event, and he still persisted, then it's game over for him. In the future, if someone touches you in that kind of manner, tell them that as soon as you get your shot, you're going to have them arrested. That tends to calm them down and make them back off. You should also be wearing some kind of 'Pro Photog' identifier and you should have an area boxed off where only you can enter. If your setup looked amaturish then you will be treated with contempt. If everything looks professional and 'restrictive', you will be much safer and much more respected.

Carry visible ID. A simple "event photographer" tag with a lanyard can go a LONG way.

When I go to the track I wear my vest with media on the back of it. Sure the cameras and lenses give it away but people take you seriously and event staff like the effort to be visible and legitimate.

I'm sure a Prom is the same thing. Be professional, act professional, LOOK professional.
