Hi everyone! I'm thinking my next lens needs to be 400. I do have the 70x200 with a 1.4tc but thinking that will be too short for HS soccer......I guess it shall be my "summer lens" only. Of course as always, I do (as most) value IQ immensely. What kind of lens does others use for this type of shooting? TIA!

at 400mm?
The Sigma 120-300 would be great, and 400mm 5.6, 100-400, 300mm 2.8, really depends on how much you want to spend. If you have a fairly unlimited budget I'd go for the 120-300 or 300mm 2.8 IS. |

The most affordable lens to give you 400mm reach would probably be the Tokina 80-400 for about $650.

What does affordable mean?
It's a fairly subjective term. |

how about a $125.00 or so mirror cat lens? Not terribly fast usually around an f8, manual focus they can be a bit soft especially in close, but for the price...

Thanks for all the great ideas! Affordable= less than a grand, 5,6,700.00 would be better yet.....as far as FL, I just figured the further reach..the better? I do want VG IQ though as well as a descent build. I suppose...as others too, we start with all the possibilities and then just try to eventually "narrow it down" to an acceptable result/product.

A used 400 f/5.6 L. You can find them for around $900 used. That is next on my list....

Save for the 400 5.6L. Good quality and good value.
