I was driving along today in central Wisconsin with a friend, and as we were passing a small wildlife area full of sandhill cranes, I noticed a larger, white bird. Luckily, we had a field guide and some binoculars with us, and what they revealed almost knocked us off our feet. It was a WHOOPING CRANE!!!! I didn't even have a camera with me though. This experience alone is enough to make a nice tele zoom a big priority for me. It was about 200 yards off the road, I'm not sure what kind of reach it would have taken, but I'm hoping a 70-200 with a 1.4x on a crop body would do the job. It would have been incredible to get a nice photo of this exceptionally rare bird. |

I get that all the time. I will be driving for work and I will see a car crash with bodies all over the road... just kidding I will see a bird or landscape and be "Man that sucks!" because I dont have a camera.
