Default Technique for Pleasing Digital Grain?

I'm not aware of a technique to purposely produce PLEASING digital grain for people photos in camera. Anyone?

I'm thinking especially in the context of wedding and portraiture...to set a mood. I like the way film, especially B&W does it. But I'm fully digital now.

Yep.. it works well and looks darn good. Take a look at this tutorial..

Basically it takes a file scanned from tmax and creates a grain file that you overlay.

Thanks, Aussieskier, but that would be in post processing right? I'll still have to look into that link you presented...

Yea, that would be the only way I know about doing it. Since the noise straight from the camera can only really by adjusted by ISO, or Pushing it in PP. Personally, I don't find the digital noise all that pleasing in comparison to tri-x or other B&W film.

This is exactly why I keep my old RebelX and a few rolls of tri-x 400 in my bag. I have never been able to truly replicate that film grain look with digital.

Rabid, will keep that in mind. I have a whole bunch of slide film in my fridge....I doubt I'll ever use them. Sad.

I bring my film body as back up.
