POTN G-series Speed Challenge #122 - STRENGTH

***************
RESULTS!

It's always disappointing when a POTN challenge only gets a few entries, particularly for the judge who has to wonder if the subject was too tough or what? But even with a subject like Marie's "Pathways", where surely almost everyone had lots of eligible photos already in their files, we have been getting a poor response so I have to assume that either the number of G-series owners is dwindling or else everyone is busy enjoying Spring rather than sitting in front of a computer, and I can't blame them.

So THANKS, you three people, for sending entries even though I have to say that none of them really came across as illustrating STRENGTH at first glance. I had been expecting shots of large bridge supports, stone columns, Sumo wrestlers, kids showing off their biceps, heavy construction equipment moving mountains etc....

Ah well, at least everyone placed in the top three!

First Place: BOUTTY for "Wild Untamed Beast". You get this for technically the best photo - light just right on the wheel spokes and good composition. The great engineering design perhaps illustrates "delicacy" rather than strength, but the giant yellow brake clamper showing in the background does give a good idea of the strength of stopping power available. So here you are again, Boutty, stuck with the next challenge...

Second Place: Marie's "Trust Me I'll catch you". You always come up with good human shots, Marie, and thanks for this one although it perhaps shows "balance" rather than sheer strength.

Third: ph.viny's "Fph.viny's "Druon Antigoon - Bad Ass Giant from Antwerp". Having now done some research into who this guy was (legendary giant killed by legendary Roman soldier and possible the source of the town's name of Antwerp, right?) I now know something new, so thanks for entering! It's always a bit of a challenge to take shots like this against the light, and the result here is that the image overall is very flat & gray with little contrast. In addition, I must admit my first irreverent impression was not "Strength" but that two kids were looking up at a skinny guy and saying "Mister - your fly is open!"
***************

Your photo should illustrate or symbolize STRENGTH. Could be animal, vegetable or mineral, but should above all be a well composed, striking photo that I might want to hang on the wall if it were mine.

Congrat to all, was funny the fly comment.

My collection of photos is filled with tons of touristic stuff, my other alternative was to enter Barbo, the one who cut the giant hand, but that statue was really abstract...

Oh, Crikey! THANKS teekay for put up with us and doing the judging duties. I thought this challenge was a bit tough; would you have hinted the expected shots earlier as listed, you would have more entries. ;) (Ah! then it would make your job too hard... :p )

Cheers for the top honour and the comments on my shot and the two runner-ups. BTW, I should have titled my image "try to tame the wild breast' ?!?

Well done marie and Ph.Viny. Hope you have as much as I did hunting for shot for this challenge. Thank you for sharing your pictures.
