Default need some quick advice

I am asking here because this is where I always am and I have read enough of your opinions to respect them...I am looking for an upgrade on one of my xt's for wedding photography and I am looking at the 20d. I found a used body on adorama for $450ish...in E+ condition. Is this a good deal? It seems wonderfully low to me.

wow, thats really cheap, whats wrong with it? lol
on amazon.com the cheapest i see is $700 used/like new condition. Brand new is $895 plus shipping so $450 is a bargain and adorama is good company to buy from.

I know that's the cheapest by far that I have seen so I am a little hesitant...I've not bought through them before. I'm a little nervous but for that price I don't think I can pass it up!

Sounds like and unnecessary risk to take for something that you depend on for income and reputation. I buy all my bodies from a local store, on the odd occasion I need rentals or support they're helpful.

The big screen on the 30D is surprisingly helpful, i'm either going to get another or a 1D3 later this year.

Good point. I suppose that I should just bit the bullet and buy new...There is just so much to buy and so far all I've made in return is gas money! LOL I guess it will work itself out in the end. Better to loosen the purse strings than get a camera that fails on me. What are your experiences buying used...when would you ever consider it?

Usually if it's too good to be true than it usually is. There's probably a reason why the body is so cheap.

I've heard that if you buy refurbished that can be quiet good. They're just as good if not better than new because they've had all the bugs fixed out of it.

Two of my lenses are 2nd hand but both my bodies are new - for the main reason that if goes wrong with one of them there is a warranty to fix it, but if you can buy second hand with warranty I say go for it!

As someone who owns a 20D I would suggest you don't buy it, mine gives me way to much grief and buying one that cheap is almost certainly asking for trouble.

In what way do you get grief from your 20d?

The main problems I have had with my 20D are related to memory cards. It can't deal with a card that has been in another camera or formatted on a computer, it will lockup and stay locked up for hours.

I wouldn't purchase anything second hand in my kit, although I am happy to shop around for the lowest bidder for new equipment. I am about to purchase equipment, and I may look overseas, but I guess if something fails during the lead up to a wedding, I will have to bite the bullet and purchase one locally to replace. That's the risk I am happy to take to save money.

Just my thoughts...

Nathan

Nathan, I bought my 5D new from www.photobuff.com.au (grey import) but my 24-70 and 70-200 I bought 2nd hand from the states, saved myself $2000 aussie dollars by doing that. Their prices can't even compare to ours.

it varies, depends if you want real deal or a grey import. My 5D cost me $3400 aussie dollars, my 30D cost me $2200 (I think, it was a while ago when I bought it).

Some good sites for reference

http://www.qualitycamera.com.au/?gcl...FSMKGgodClnJbA - on-line store, great people, operate from Perth

http://www.photocontinental.com.au/ - the closest camera store to me - genuine all the way, they're in Brisbane

http://d-d-photographics.com.au/ - in sydney, never dealt with them, grey imports, heard both good and bad stories

http://www.photobuff.com.au/ - where I got my 5D, happy with everything, not sure if they have a store front, they operate from melbourne

For me secondhand is what I mainly go for. I'm still trying to pay for college so if I were to find that 20D I would actually go for it. There will always be new upgrades coming out so prices will always drop. if only you could find out the shutter count cause that's pretty important.
