Default Topping up my Wedding Kit - Best Prices for Equipment

Hi Everyone,

I am about to take the plunge and purchase come L Series Lenses to top up my wedding kit. I am based in Australia and I am looking at purchasing gear to value of around $5000+. I would like to know where everyone purchases their gear. I am considering purchasing from the US as the pricing and Australian Dollar are very competitive at the moment.

Using B & H Photo as a comparison, they generally give excellent service with very quick turnarounds, but their price is not always the best. Is there anywhere that is cheaper, either online or shopfront, that is still fairly reputable and is quick to deliver items to you?

You advise and help appreciated.

Nathan

Hi Nathan
Try Discount Digital in Sydney (www.d-d-photographics.com). Good prices and I have bought stuff from them with no probs.

it isnt worth it to buy from bh or any american online place, your going to have to pay import tax and its going to beat the crap out of you, i am sure! unless you have someone in the states who can ship it to you, by taking it out of the boxes and getting rid of any receipts, its really not worth it - and of course, you could alwys go on vacation and visit! also, your warranty wont carry over to australia, it will be a US warranty only.

i always buy my gear in the states, but i am from there so i have a home and can have it shipped.

i really think its better if you find a good warehouse outlet in australia.

I used to buy overseas, now I buy locally and get similar prices and much better service. For example when my cameras failed they loaned my a camera and lens.

I agree Jono, I use them often, but with the Aussie Dollar at the moment, I can save over $500 on the 70-200mm f/2.8 IS campared to his prices.

Tim,

That is exactly my preference, and the way I have done it up until now, but Canon Australia has decided that only stores that carry over $50K in stock of Pro Series Lenses can order this stock. So the local guy I used to use for everything can't even order me an L Series Lens.

There are not many suppliers, even in Sydney, who are prepared to carry this much stock. One of the biggest in Sydney (G&V Imaging) is closing and almost has no stock left. D&D, as mentioned by Jono is by far the best priced as he brings in Grey Imports from Asia (all made in the same factory anyway - just the warranty is different), but there is really no one else.

Anyone know someone in Australia?

Nathan
