Default -= 1D MkIII Owners discuss =- and Post Your Pics

**EDIT BY CDS***

We have a growing number of *Fan clubs revolving around specific bodies.
I thought I'd make a collection of them, so we can find them and keep them organized (merge in new ones etc)

The Master list is here

Feel free to point us to other models or threads that could be merged.

* WARNING: By posting in this or any of the linked threads you are wholly admitting in no uncertain terms that you are a snot nosed, milk drinking, knee biting, curtain climbing unabashed Canon Fanboy who's opinions must be taken with several large grains of kosher salt.

Ok samples are up. I really hate not being able to use my regular Photoshop workflow. Images were shot in raw, converted to tiff with dpp 3.01 (export to photoshop does not work under Vista) and then batch sized and converted to jpeg (quality 10). some of the images have been cropped, but exposure and color has _not_ been corrected. No sharpness has been added either and camera was in default mode almost. Cloudy WB + Adobe RGB. Converted to SRGB & 8 bit during jpeg saving.

First two are some color tests to see red tones (cloudy)

And another one.

Next are the promised duck shots.

Some runners (nice back sides sorry)

And a cute little kid watching ducks being fed. A shy one too...

Next two of the wife, who was my bag mule (very nice of her)

Haven't got time for more shooting today, but here are two quick high iso shots. scaled to 800x533 to fit here, but otherwise no post noise reduction.

ISO 3200:

I tried it both ways. The in-cam noise reduction didn't do a whole lot. It beat the 5d both ways in my test.

Here is a 3200 ISO shot outside at night

I guess I'll go ahead and post the test pics I took from all 3 cams if anyone's interested. I'm not a big test person so don't grill me about this and that. If anyone has the time to put 100% crops up side by side then go for it.

Was at a private party yesterday and had a chance to test the mark III's low light capabilities. Also had an chance to experiment with the 580 EX II and some "shutter dragging" later shooting the live band there.

I'm still amazed at both the low noise, but even more impressed at how accurate the mark III's 63 zone metering seems to be. Shot some of the guests with very bright strobes (used for effects at the party) in the background without having to resort to multi spot metering and the images came out perfect.

Below is an example of an otherwise very boring image that sort of demonstrates an exposure that would be hard with the 5D, without having to be more carefull with the setup.

Ohh yes - the image is ISO3200.

Here are a few more samples. This time no testing. Just casual shooting in the streets of Copenhagen earlier today.

Note: The car was moving in the last shot.

I doubt any will work without some form of update,.
this is always the bummer, and part of why I have not replaced a camera in 3 years. I am happy with my software...

Here is a Mark III sample using the new clarity tool in Adobe Camera Raw 4.1. Right image has 100 % clarity. Highlight priority mode was _not_ used.

A few photos. Not the greatest art but here goes. I have not customised any functions on the camera yet except which files I wanted to shoots. To start with I shot RAW+L so I can compare (haven't done that yet) and then just raw. About raw, I don't have CS3 yet so have to use DPP which I am not used to just so you know.

ISO 6400 test. Resized I think this is very usable.

A few more Mark III samples. This time using 17-40L. Probably last time I'll mount it on the Mark III.

Sydor25, probably because this is a whole new concept, not just raw, but (small) raw it's kind of foreign and as Tommy says they may be waiting on specs, but more likely waiting to see if other manufacturers follow suite with their own small raw. If I were abobe I'd be reluctant to follow the lean of just one vendor.

KAC
I installed CS3 yesterday. Or actually I installed it friday but messed up. I had the beta on and after uninstalling that and installing the released version I accidently accepted the license it found which was the beta license which were expired. I got that fixed yesterday and today I received my new license for CS3. Currently I am setting it up on my laptop and processed the first image on that. I will use my laptop in Namibia but I do my main processing on my stationary pc.

How does this photo look? Too bright/dark?. It was processed on my laptop. (as all know laptop monitors are not always the best to do this but I think mine is fine but it is different than my main monitor).

Only slightly blown between the eyes. Otherwise very nice indeed.

Speaking of highlight priority, here's a test shot I did:
