Apparently, there is a group of them doing the same thing in my town. One of my friends was a victim twice. Once someone took off with a case full of expensive studio lighting gear. It was outside in broad daylight sitting only 1 metre from them. Turn your back for a second and.....

And than another time, someone followed her home from a wedding. She parked in her driveway and went inside just to change. Came out to her car within 5 minutes. Her trunk was emptied. They took it all.

I've also heard of people who go to weddings, pick up a business card to find out where your studio is, and then break into it that evening because they know you're not there. Which is why I do NOT have my address on my business card, nor on my website.

Wow, picturecrazy, I never realized the lengths some people might go to. I don't carry much gear with me when I shoot, so it's all on me (on my hips) when I work.

Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me?

I'm sorry but you think he would have learned the first time.

What do you all do with your gear bag when not in use. I usually stick it next to the DJ. I've always been confident enough to do this, but after seeing this, I'm not sure, without having an assistant, what to do with the bag.

I put the bag somewhere out of the way, though I might start leaving it with someone. If I set my cameras down even to go to the bathroom I take my CF cards with me in my cardsafe, though I think i'll be more careful in future.

I set my bag beside the DJ as well. The new case I have, (Airport International) has a cable tether built into it, AND it has a locking main compartment. I may have to start thinking about locking up and Tethering it to something while unattended from now on. I do have insurance, and I keep my flash cards in my camera's and spent ones on me, in my card wallet attached to my belt.

not that simple. There is a similiar post on FM. Watch out! And no, it's not worth your life. Some of the people are armed.
It's a well organized crime. There are getaway cars and drivers.
Simple things like leaving it next to the DJ and asking them to keep an eye on it may not help. It's easy to distract a DJ, they are paid to interact with the party. They will even steal it during the ceremony or post/ceremony.

My eye is always on my gear for other reasons. I'm worried the youngsters will get into my gear from mischief.
Even so, the only thing in my bag when shooting is my 70-200, my other lenses are with me. And be careful when going to your car to leave.

I keep my bag next to the DJ also. I keep it under the DJ table, behind the table cloth so guests don't have to look at a big ugly camera bag. Also it has a chest strap that clicks together to help with the weight, I usually snap that across one of the table legs so if anyone trys to pull on the bag they're going to move the table and the DJ will obviously notice if the DJ table with all the expensive sound equipment moves!!
