Default Kata Bags H-14 vs. H-12

Ok so I'm in the market for a small very portable camera bag to take skiing/backcounty/hiking etc with my XTi with grip and one or two lenses (70-200 2.8 and a shorter zoom or prime) and was looking at the H-12 and H-14.

Looking on Kata's website shows that the two bags are actually quite different in size:
Kata H-14 internal dimensions: 9.4" L x 6.2" W x 10.2" H and 1.5lbs.
Kata H-12 internal dimensions: 6.9" L x 3.9 W x 8.3" H and 0.9lbs.

I need a bag that will sometimes fit under my jacket while skiing for cold/wettness conditions. I would like to get the smaller bag as it would be more convenient, but have no idea about the size difference. Would my body/lens fit in the smaller bag (with the 70-200 attached)? Other than the dimensions, is there any other difference between the two bags?

I do not need a lot of extra space outside of holding the camera/lenses because I will also have my standard backcountry pack on. There are no stores convenient to me with the bags so I need to rely on other's input.

It will be snug in the H-14, but will fit. I have an H-14 and have had an XT with grip and a 70-200 f/2.8 ISL in it.

I have the H-14, but I have a 5D, and without grip I find it unfomfortable to put my 70-200 in it.

Maybe it's because my 5Ds wider, dunno, thought I've give you a slightly different perspective.

I have the H-14 and fit the 70-200 f/2.8 with clamp in the side pocket, 430 flash w/defuser in the other side pocket, Sigma 10-20 on the bottom center with my 30D with grip and 17-55 mounted on camera. All my lenses have the hoods on backwards. 2 Extra batteries, couple of Compactflash cards, cleaning cloth, wired remote. It is to capacity and I can't snap the top flap down but can zip the flap closed. I normally take out the 70-200 and carry it in it's pouch in a small backpack with my other hiking stuff. I did use Doc Klepper's modification to the inside flap.

I've been searching for this modification for a good 20 minutes now ... to no avail. Any help here?

So the overall opinion is the H-14 will work with the XTi/grip and 70-200 2.8 mounted, even though it will be tight. Is this tight length wise? Width wise?

Anyone using the H-12? I'm guessing it will be too short for the above setup?

You cut the inside flap down the center to the opening. Then sew the cut that you made. I hand sewed the the black nylon to the yellow padding to prevent it from fraying. I did not fold the flap, I just left it loose. Here's Doc's photos.

Thanks, that helps a ton. My H-14 is a pretty tight fit with the grip. This should do nicely.
