Default Nesting - Egg Laying Turtle - 7 Shots

Not sure what kind of turtle this is, but she is fresh water and lives in a swamp along the Mississippi River in Wisconsin.

The hole was already dug and some eggs in it when I came upon her...

A couple of eggs. I didn't want to get too close...

Another angle of the eggs. They were about 9 inches down and almost as big as a small chicken egg...

Here she is covering it up...

She would take big scoops of dirt and pull it into the hole...

Then she would make a 'fist' with her back paws and stamp it down...

She had a little "running" action with her back feet while tamping down the dirt. Turtles can run, when they want to...

Thanks Elph, it's all about sharing. This turtle was just a few feet off the road and the ground was sandy. Not much traffic as it was in a county park. It just shows, you never know what your going to see, or where. I'm over 60 and never seen this in my life.

Thanks Ken. I don't see why the green sea turtles should get all the action. Other turtles lay eggs too.
