Default '68 Road Runner 440

Someone said, "California guys make nice looking cars & they get awards & trophys for them. Detroiters make race cars to drive on the street!"
It couldn't be more true in this case.

Mark's '68 Road Runner (1st year for the breed) has a .040" overbored 440 motor with a 8:71 blower & a .509" lift cam. He says that with 5 pounds of boost for the street it puts out 450bhp.
Wink! Wink!
(Yeah, these guys are like Quint (Jaws), chumming bait for unsuspecting Chevy owners that think they're sharks? My stock 383 'Cuda had 340bhp & did 141mph out of the showroom. Mark seems a nice guy, but I'm not buying only 450bhp? Sorry, Mark!)

It has a 4-speed pushing a 4:10 rear end, but the big tires reduce the effective ratio to somewhere around 3:60, if I remember what he said correctly.
He's had it for 6 years & puts on 10,000-12,000 miles a year. Most guys store their cars, but he says that he even drives it in the Winter when the weather is nice & the streets are dry, so he replaces the rear tires each year.

This plate is one I just had to include in my book!

you know, i think you are right... 450 is an under estimate.. i would say... 475 .... (note sarcasm)

great shots... that thing is a beast.. @ 5 psi he has to be putting down at least 600-650 HP on a mild tune... probably runs very low 11's to mid 10's in it....
it is probably capable of 800 HP at least though

He said not in full-race trim, so there wasn't much point in getting a time. Dennis's '69 Road Runner has a bit more cam lift & easily makes 800bhp & 10s in the quarter without the NO2.

I'll be looking for it at WDC. Looks like a good looking 65 Goat and a 66 LeMans in the background of the 3rd pic.

By the way, where were these taken?

No, but when he started it up... It's a fairly big lot & usually you can feel them coming before you can see them. The Mopars make the fillings in your teeth resonate!

I'd love to see it do a wheelie! Given those specs (and the obvious traction capabilities) I have no doubts it could!

Wow, 10,000-12,000 miles a year with those tires ? Oh man, I wouldn't wanna see the price tag for those rear tires.
Thanks for sharing! Amazing car!
