Default used 20D or new 30D

Will a used 20D be just as good as a 30D. Anyone own both? I am needing a second body, well it will become my main body, and another lens. Currently I have the Rebel xt, 17-85 f/4-5.6and 70-200 Is 2.8. I am looking at 30D and 17-55 f/2.8 that everyone talks well about. I was wondering if a used 20D would be just as well. I have never purchased used and come to think of it have have never owned a lens that didn't have IS. Any suggestions. Thanks

I have both a 20 and 30D. They are basically the same camera, the 30D just has a couple extra features that I don't use. A search will explain the differences.

Basically, they are so similar that when I am running out and need a camera I just grab the closest one and don't even bother to check which one it is. Image quality is exactly the same.

If you can get a good deal on a 30D, go for it. If you can get a good deal on a 20D, get it.

I bought a refurb 20d as a second body instead of the 30D to save a little money. I am pleased for now. Sometime I wish I gotten the 30D but with all of the hype about the 40D "coming soon" I just chose to wait...

Thanks for your input. From B&H I can get a used 20D for 719.00 or a new 30D for 924.00 after rebate. $200.00 difference.

Does the used 20D have any sort of warranty? A one year warranty on the 30D might be worth the $200 for piece of mind?

I'd agree, for $200 saving, the 20D is fine! And I actually prefer the LCD on it, sure it's smaller, but it has better contrast than the 30D.

For only $200, I'd go for the 30D for the warranty and features. But really, a used 20D should be significantly cheaper than a 30D. I got a used 20D a couple of months ago for $700 with a Canon 50mm 1.4 lens. That was something like $700 cheaper than the cheapest 30D and the lens that I could find.

If you haven't found a used 20D for at least $500 cheaper than a new 30D, then you haven't looked much. Check out other sites. Sorry to say the prices people are asking for used equipment on this site tend to be ridiculous. I come here for the great forum discussion.

(Please don't ban me just my opinion.)

Thanks, I have only looked at B&H. I am kind of scared to buy used.

If you're willing to buy a used camera, check craigslist for what might be available in your area.

I purchased the following used equipment from seller a few months ago for only $800. So far everything is working fine.

-Canon 20D DLSR body
-Canon 18-55mm lens
-Canon 50.8mm lens
-Prime Tripod
-Lexar 1GB memory card
-B&w UV filter ($80 value)
-Samsonite Camera bag
-Original box with all software (Strap, battery, charger, everything else are all included)

Ok, so I have searched a lot of places. If it was a better buy than B&H then it was on the list of scams. No Canons on the craigslist anywhere in Kansas (thanks for that idea). So basically what I am down to is B&H. I can buy the used 20D only 200.00 cheaper than the 30D. I'm thinking I should go knew. I need to buy it today I think to get the rebate. Any last advice.

I love the bigger LCD on my 30D, i'm not going to trade the 20D up just for that though.
