Because of the different situations you might encounter, ask the clients what they think. I usually wear dark colors, black or dark blue with comfy shoes. I wear my hair pulled back and a little make up. I don't want to scare the guests. If the shoot is at the church, a nice comfy dress-skirt would be appropriate. At the reception, I try to be very professional. I sometimes wear a blazer to fit in better. Good luck and tell us what you decide.

a skirt is a no no but nice linen capris would be fine - and I typically keep the pits covered, no sleeveless shirts, even though your hot you'll be lifting your arms a lot and I think they are just ugly But some people aren't weirdos like me!

LOL .. I'm glad you posted that last sentence .. oyyy, I was gettin ready to say ..
"Just wear a nice pair of slacks, and a cool golf/polo shirt" .. yikes!
In Hawaii, we called "flip-flops" *slippers* .. hahaa, I never heard them called flip-flops
til I got here to the mainland .. and yeah, they're a no no .. hehehh .. unless of course
the Bride & Groom are havin a Luau style Wedding on the beach ..

Have fun choosing your wardrobe .. I myself have always liked when women wear culottes ..

I like the cut of Calvin Klein and found a couple of nice jackets which I wear with pants. Like Kathy, I won't wear a skirt or sleeveless top. And as for shoes, I wear either Easy Spirits or Aerosoles to keep my tootsies comfortable.

When I shoot engagement sessions or senior portraits, my attire is much more casual, since I shoot them outdoors. I usually wear a pair of low slung jeans, a band T-shirt (the Stones or Pink Floyd), and a pair of New Balance running shoes.

I do feel comfortable in formal wear when I have to shoot at formal occasions. Sometimes that means I wear the "little black dress" but not so little since I'm "chubby" . I never wear anything short or sleeveless, usually, it's something that will fit into the crowd. I never wear high heels because, that's just an accident ready to happen.

Really, you should dress as if you were a wedding guest in nice, unobtrusive clothing and comfortable dress shoes. Just take into account the "ups and downs" that Kathy referred to and dress so you aren't showing your...self.

Coldwater Creek has amazing clothes for business wear for not very much, I order from their catalog. The black jacket-pants or skirt combo are a must have if you are shooting formal events. I bought this really great jacket-skirt from a lady who does in home shows (my friend invited me). That outfit has seen a lot of wear, and it keeps on going. No iron clothes are great.

Jeans are not really the best thing to wear. I think it's too casual. Gaining weight is a bummer, I know, I have 4 kids. If you need some plain black pants, just stop by WalMart and get something. Make sure they are dressy and if you need elastic, it's okay. Bulging out of clothes is also not very attractive, especially if you have to bend down.

Good for you!

And I second Suzy's recommendation of Coldwater Creek. They have lovely things at an affordable price.

I had Thin polo shirts (the kind cut for women), embroidered with my bix name on them. I wear those black pants and solid black new balance shoes.
