Hi,
I'm looking for any advice for a worthwhile compact which will tuck into a pocket. I normally use a 5D and want something which I can carry about all the time. The 'must haves' the camera should have are, around 6MP with Av and Tv, capable of taking RAW images and have a viewfinder and dare I say it, it doesn't necessarily have to be a Canon. Regards, Colin |

I'm considering getting a P&S/small compact at the moment as well and I've come to terms with the realization that I probably don't need Av and Tv with a point and shoot - it'll mostly be for people shots and the like that'll involve flash etc...
As such I'm going back to Olympus and its shockproof/waterproof cameras - I always liked my water resistant Mju cameras and the waterPROOF and shockproof camera sounds pretty darn good, especially when one gets a little tipsy and may drop it ![]() Anyway, probably not that helpful but perhaps some food for thought |

I'm looking for much the same thing and I've discovered that the RAW is pretty much a thing of the past, only a few compacts seem to offer it now. If you're in the UK then there are plenty of Fuji Finepix E550's going cheap on ebay right now. However software support for the RAW files seem to be a bit rubbish. Other secondhand cameras offering RAW seem to go for a premium and being older suffer from lower ISO's. Ricoh do a couple offering RAW, but they're not cheap. Panasonic also do the LX-2, which has RAW but also seems to have noise issues.
Personally having looked at whats available I'm torn between 3 cameras, all Canon. Here's what much surfing has discovered. The A710IS. IS, longer zoom, fixed screen, looks like it's been left out in the sun too long. Apparently not the best build or image quality. A640. Flip out screen, good build and image quality not far off the G7, Looks ok. G7. Fixed screen, No RAW, Lens no longer F2, IS, looks really cool. I'm thinking A640, much as I'd love the G7. Any one else have any suggestions?
