I was bored out of my skull last weekend, and just took off with my camera in the middle of the day (worst light), hoping to just spare myself some mental health breakdown, and was quite surprised to get home and see this one.
Maybe it's just me, but it almost has a look like it had some artificial lighting injected into it. I kind of like how the shadows in the water, and the sky, while plain blue and boring, is at least not blown out, almost makes like a vignette effect on the whole scene. Like I said...maybe it's just me, but for having gone out with really low expectations, I was pleased to find this inside the box, so to speak. ![]() Thanks for looking! |

OK...I guess I can assume that this picture is neither really good, nor really bad. Submissions at either end seem to get far more comments than the ones in the middle. On this particular shot, I had fairly low expectations anyway, so it really doesn't matter, but on others, it can get frustrating not having any comments.
On the one hand, it's nice to know that a lot of people didn't tell you that your shot sucks, but on the other, no positive comments tells me that it's not one of the great ones, yet, I'm not finding any constructive comments on how to get my shots out of this middle, sort of OK zone, and into the range of getting more positive comments. I generally have a pretty good feel for which ones suck, and which ones really stand out as exceptional, already. I want to know, on my mediocre shots, any subtle changes to make next time to make them better. Anything in that regard here? |

Since you asked for it... The colors are washed out, and it's too busy a composition. There's just too much going on in the frame. That's how I feel about it, you may not agree.
That said, you did well with the exposure. The sky looks good! Also, it looks like a beautiful spot. Maybe you could back another time, and try another composition? I'm thinking early morning... Regards, Oliver

Yeah...I agree about it being rather busy, and lacking a real focal point. As for the colors, I struggle with the balance between washed out, and oversaturated. I've seen more complaints about oversaturation than for washed out colors, so I leaned this way.
Thanks for your comments! |
