Default Eastern League Baseball (8 photos)

Your feedback is appreciated. Thanks for looking.

Will

#1 - John Bowker - Connecticut Defenders

#2 - Mark Minicozzi - Connecticut Defenders - Hits a double to center field

#3 - Garrett Mock - Harrisburg Senators starting pitcher

#4 - Carlos Mendoza - 3rd baseman- Trenton Thunder - Went 2/3 with a double and 1 rbi

#5 - Brett Gardner - centerfielder - Trenton Thunder - laid a perfect sac-bunt down the 3rd base line.

#6 - Jerome Williams - relief pitcher - Harrisburg Senators

#7 - Juan Miranda - DH - Trenton Thunder - The situation was runners on 2nd and 3rd with one out. A .230 hitter was walked to load the bases. Miranda, who is the clean up batter hitting .325, was on deck. Grandslam..... I was a little off on the timing.

#8 - Marcos Yepez - SS - Harrisburg Senators - laid a perfect bunt down the 3rd base line for a infield single.

Pretty darn good! ( #8 is the best capture)

I was wondering about the exposures on #2 and #8. It looks like you had some negative EC on those, which led to really high shutter speeds, and there's some extra noise in those two. Did you have to add back brightness in PP?

Good stuff Will and shot in some rather difficult light conditions too! I'm with Jon -- #8's your best but your pitcher shots are excellent too. As for #7 the best capture might have been when he took his first stride out of the box -- especially if you could have captured enough face as he watched the ball go yard.

Jon,

Thanks for the feedback. On 2 & 8 I did have to add back brightness. You are correct it did add noise. I was going to run them through Noise Ninja but I thought it would make them to soft?

Thanks Jerry, as always I appreciate your feedback and advice. Light conditions were tuff. Start time was 1:05. It was sunny, no clouds and the temp was about 97 (with no air movement in the photo well).

I have the first stride on #7 but I framed it to close and cut half the body off . I'm starting to learn to not frame the shot so close and leave room for follow through and stuff like that.

Thanks
Will

Noise Ninja, if used correctly, can actually sharpen your images and do so very effectively. It is an extremely powerful tool. What you may be fearing is the "smoothing" that sometime is evidenced when over-applying noise reduction: the so-called "plastic skin" look. However, if you choose your parameters properly, and selectively "erase" via Noise Ninja's mask feature, you can get the best of all Worlds. If you experiment, you can go back and forth and preview the results.

Here is a discussion of NN's sharpening capabilities and other settings:

Shots look good. I think 5-8 are just a little flat. So Williams is back in the minors, he pitched for the Cubs for awhile.

Nice pics, I hate shooting in Harrisburg (no offense :P) but each time I've been there the light was absolutely horrible. The front office and everyone though was extremely nice, and the teams I've seen there were all awsome - just the light made me go "UGH!"

#8 is definately my favorite followed by 3, different backgrounds though when I shot there it seems - did they add advertising or was I just in the dugout to much and not the photo well :P I remember the players were all hiding in there while I was in the reg. dugout part cuz there was no room.

Chris, yup I saw Williams on rehab in Buffalo - not sure if he's still on rehab or was just assigned there. When I saw him on Buffalo he was on ML Rehab.

Chris,

Thanks for the feedback. I will mess with 5-8 a little to see if I can get them to pop a little more.

Williams is back in the minors. He came to Harrisburg on rehab and then was assigned here. He hasn't been pitching to good. He actually loaded the bases and gave up the grandslam (mentioned in shot #7). He used to play for the Giants too. He seems like a nice guy.

Thanks for your feedback.

No offense taken, Harrisburg is a difficult place to shoot at. I agree the front office is very nice and the players have been great. Lighting has been horrible here all season. It's either raining or very hot and sunny.

Backgrounds have changed based who sponsers the team. When shooting in the 'well' I try to get low for a different perspective, shoot level with the playing field. From what I've been told access to the player part of the dugout is limited to before games. During games the photogs have to be in the 'well' or they are free to roam the stadium.

Let me know next time you're in the area.

Will
