Default give it to me!! please!

the best way in learning is by making mistakes, please give me as much critism as possible. I am a complete amature, and I just learned from my friend that all my pictures should be taken raw so i can edit them on photoshop it gives it more flexibility. The sky came out red for some reason, i have no idea why. I have a thing for taking pictures are night. I love it, i used my tripod.

The picture with the dog, is a friend of mine. What lens would best suit me for night landscapes? I'm new to this, how can i get better?

hey there. you've got the right idea. what mode were you shooting in? it looks a tad dark. probably could have used a slower shutter speed (longer exposure time) to brighten things up. also, the glow in the sky looks correct to me considering its a nighttime cityscape, and when you use longer exposures at night you will end up with some interesting colors in the sky. what aperature did you shoot at? the image looks a bit soft, but that could also be from camera shake if you werent shooting on a rock solid tripod. but enough rambling, good attempt and good idea. next time (at night) just try a longer exposure time and i think you'll like what you see.

with #2 I'd say to watch the background - great composition and pose, would have been much better without the light in the middle of the pic.
