As some of you may have heard, photographs of pages from the latest Harry Potter book have been uploaded to the Internet. Numerous sites have been getting legal reminders (read: threats) to take down any Harry Potter page photos as soon as they are posted.
Well, i got my hands on a couple pages.
I noticed something VERY interesting about the numbering scheme of the images and thought "Uh-oh. This looks familiar."
I examined the EXIF data and discovered the following:
Model: Canon EOS DIGITAL REBEL
Date/time: 7/15/2007 8:40:11 PM
Other info: ISO 400 (WHY?) f/4 1/60s (must be green box), 30mm focal length, blah blah blah
BUT HERE IS WHERE HE GETS BUSTED: The camera serial number is in the EXIF data! Oh! BUSTED!
I imagine if investigators wanted to bust this guy, they could find out the final destination of this camera and compare the EXIF data to his camera and the photo of the carpet to his mother's basement. Now the question is, can they follow the trail?
It's sad, really. I was hoping it would have been a Nikon.
DISCLAIMER: I no longer have these photos as it was only the title page and chapters and worth nothing to me. I've deleted the photos and done a reorganization of my hard drive. It's all gone.
