Lightbulb info on lens and camera calibration at Canon Service

Once in the while somebody is in need to send or drop off either lens or camera to the Canon service for calibration, but if doing it for the first time or even after long period of time there are many questions posted here about the turn around time, price for such service etc.
Since I did it recently I’m posting some info and I hope the others will be adding their experience with Canon’s service to keep us informed...

I dropped off the three year old 20D body and two year old 70-200 f/2.8 lens for calibration at the Canon Service in New Jersey. (obviously both items were not under the warranty).
The very nice lady at the front desk instructed me that the calibration is an electronic issue so it will be free of charge. While they will have it in their facility they will also provide regular service such as cleaning and check up. If there will be anything wrong with any part (such as corrosion) and the part will need to be replaced they will contact me by phone and provide the estimate for the repair, otherwise my gear will be shipped without contacting me. She provide me with the receipt and the repair number which is needed to check up the repair status on Canon’s website (www.usa.canon.com/repair)
Both items were delivered by FedEx 4 business days later in two separate boxes. Both camera and lens were wrapped in 2 layers of bubble wrap with 1 page of information what was done or fixed. Everything was done free of charge, I wasn’t even charged for shipping. I want to add that I’m not a member of any photo group.

Lens was left only with the caps on - no hood or original box.
Camera was left without the battery and CF card - no box either...

And yes calibration and cleaning was done to both camera and lens.
My viewfinder is now clean as it was at the day I purchased my camera - I had couple annoying dust spec inside that I couldn’t get off with the rocket blower or cotton swab...

I can officially say that I’m more than happy to be a Canon costumer...

No, I think that's how they make up the cost of the service, resell 2nd hand gear.

Good to know and well done Canon !
I've yet the need to use the service but it's good to know it can be done.
Hope it's the same here in Australia.

I interpreted the OP to mean the equipment was left with canon that way, not that canon sent it back missing those items. Yes? No?

I think you misunderstood what I wrote...

"Lens was left" => I left the lens at the Canon facility...
I Included this information, because some people wonder if they should include original box, case, hood while shipping their lenses to Canon for calibration...
