Default 420EX AF assist beam ?

I noticed my speedlite 420EX has what appear to be two seperate AF assist beam emmiters under the red lens... It seems only one of the sides emits the af assist beam... what does it take to activate the other side?

I know it doesnt really matter, this is just more of a curiosity on my part!

thanks,

CHRIS

Yes, there are two lights on 420EX: one emits horizontal pattern, another one vertical. Depending on which focus point is selected appropriate light will emit. If you want both lights to emit select all focus points. At least this is how it works when 20D (30D)/420EX combo is used.
