I don't know if anyone has ever given this much thought but everyone is either right eye dominant or left eye dominant.
This is somewhat analogous to crossing of your hands... which thumb is on top? Not the same for everyone and doesn't feel right if you do it the "wrong" way for you. (For me my right thumb is on top. Also, I'm left eye dominant.) Why I ask.... For those of us who are left eye dominant, it makes taking pictures with an SLR somewhat more difficult because your right eye ends up behind the body of the camera, which means that all you can see is what is through the view finder. If you are right eye dominant, you have the luxury of still "looking" with your left eye while your right eye sees what is through the viewfinder. Are us left eye dominant photogs somewhat handicapped? Has anyone who is left eye dominant, noticed this and tried to force/train themselves to use their right eye? I really want to know what people think so I set up a poll. Please vote and share your thoughts. |

I'm left eye too and I've been trying to learn to shoot with the right eye so I still can "use" my left one. Man, isn't it tought to break an old habit.
I still reverse back to the left eye on critical shots but found myself using the right eye more when I have a chance. It feels really weird. |

You really need to add a “both eyes” option with neither dominant else I can not answer the poll.

Guilty as charged. Thanks for making me feel bad when I was trying to shed some light on this phenomena.
Sorry if you left handers feel left out |

No worry, in the year 2015, all left hand shooters will be forced to use the new Kodak DSLR. |

When shooting firearms I found out that as a righty I am left eye dominant. It became so ingrained to aim with my left eye that I simply do it automatically when shooting the camera.

I am right handed and shoot with my left eye.
BTW, maybe we should get these all merged. Rad

I see 3 threads in a row about which eye do you shoot with. Why? Left for me

This is what made me think of this as well. I used to shoot billiards and noticed that I was left eye dominant, yet right handed. Shooting firearms is the same for me. This makes it kind of awkward because you have to bring the firearm further over to aim and shoot.

OK, sorry I forgot about both eyes and I'm especially sorry for all the lefties... well not that sorry since the camera manufacturers don't seem to care about you guys in the first place.
I didn't realize there were people with ambidextrous (sp?) eyes. You guys are too talented for the rest of us and a vote for right and a vote for left would cancel out. |
