Default Software for home security/pet watching?

Hi All,
Does anyone know of some freeware/shareware I can use with my G1 that will allow me to effectively turn the camera into a webcam?
I have visions of leaving my camera hooked to the computer (running a web server) and powered by the adapter. The software would capture a continuous display of the room, and perhaps relay it to a webpage. If nothing else, I could use pcAnywhere and simply view my home computer from work while the screen showed what the G1 was seeing.

Am I out to lunch, or can an SLR digicam be made to do such a thing?

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Aren't you going to burn out the ccd like that? Web cam for $80 would do a better job and if thief or pet destroys it, it wouldn't be a great lost.

Yes I know I haven't answer your question.

Actually, maybe you did. I don't know enough about digicam operation to know the consequences of what I was asking.

Thinking about what you said, I can see some real damage potential. I've read several stories about "noise" being created in pictures as the CCD heats up. I suspect leaving the camera on all day, if there's a way to "open" the CCD for great lengths of time, would be a great way to melt something inside.

Thanks for helping me see through the process!
