Default S1 IS - broken irreparably or not?

My S1 no longer displays any image in the EVF or flip-out screen. When I turn the camera on, occasionally I'll get a fleeting image - which looks a bit like the horizontal hold has gone on a telly - then it fades to black.

I can review photos OK on the EVF and screen.

Is this an indication the sensor has gone? Or something else? And can these be repaired? Cheaply?

Thanks

Sticky at top could apply to you as it includes the S1.

Service notice.

Took camera to local Canon repair centre - and was fixed free of charge. And it was about 4 years old! So I've a got a new sensor now
