Default Break Dancing

I just did a shoot at the UNC Chapel Hill campus Saturday night taking pictures of some of my friends break dancing at a competition.

Tons more on my website at www.jbaz.net. What you guys think? I just got some new studio equipment so I had some fun shooting this. I was shooting ISO 200, f/5.6 at 1/200 with two AB800's, one with a giant softbox and the other with a 30 degree grid positioned about 3 feet away from the dance mat. I had a wireless transmitter so I shot at different angles and positions with relative ease. This was done outside at night.

Thanks, I used to break but my doc says to wait another year before I take it back up. Had ACL surgery last summer so I've been just exercising regularly and conditioning my body. Lugging a large camera and hand holding fits the bill.

Man, these are excellent pics. No wonder the lighting is superb, you have your equipment with you. Here in NYC, there is a group of breakdancers who perform regularly at Union Square, I am reminded of that. Thanks for sharing!

I just placed 2nd for the Redbull Styleshot BBoy photo contest last night and won an 8gb iPod touch. Here's the winning photo.

I submitted 5 pictures and honestly, most of those weren't the best ones, but I had to choose the dancers that were from NC. For that competition, a few crews from NYC, VA and FL came over to Chapel Hill, NC for the battle last year and they had some sick moves. First prize was a free trip to west coast for a large BBoy battle, again sponsored by redbull, but I had my eye on the iPod. I've already won a number of awards and honorable mentions for a number of pictures from this series of pictures. Funny how I was just there to play and test out the lights (first remote shoot).

More pictures from the series can be seen here.
