Default BRSCC Brands Hatch 1/2-Sept 2007

I had the pleasure of being able to be guests in the paddock for the weekend (a friend is a driver in the Fiesta Chamionpship).

Pretty much all of these were taken with the 135L, I just preferred using it over the 100-400, and it gaves good results. All track shots were taken on the inside of Druids.

Comments/critique would be very welcome.

Super Silhouettes ducking and diving.

Some TVR drivers aren't afraid of a scratch or two.

Super Silhouettes - "close racing"

Skid lid

Never seen a TVR like thos before, but it's funky, loud and fast!!

Time Attack 350Z

Up on the blocks

One slightly frustrated mechanic. Drive shaft problems for which there was no easy solution. Eight hours of labour later, the car was ready for the next day's racing

Reyland Cosworth always strikes a chord with Brit pistonheads...

Super sexy Viper. Love how it reflects the curbs here.

Guys

First of all great photos, I'll put some of mine up later

I have question for you.

I attended Brands today as the Time Attack photog, The photo on the front of the program is mine, Imagine my surprise when i saw it. I did not know it was being used , no one contacted me. Where do you think i stand from a copywrite point of view. Personally i think i am entitled to something but would want your opinions

cheers

Nigel

I have loads of straight ones. I'm just a sucker for detail, and the diagonal gives me more of it.

I'm just loving the huge sharpness, colour definition, and contrast of the 135L. I've hardly had to do anything to these shots apart from shrink them and apply a tiny amount of sharpening.

Definite copyright infringment. I'd contact them and complain about the lack of permission. Although I guess it might depend on where they got the picture from (if you sold it to a stock agency, you might not have any comeback).

You also need to be sure than you can prove beyond any doubt that it's your picture.

The inside of Druids gave me the right scope for the focal length (althout just a smidge too short for the apex huggers). The 135L is exceptionally fast in focussing, that and the 5D just eats up light. I only lost shots on the shake (shutter speed went down to the limits of non-IS handholding). I got enough keepers to keep me happy though.

Were you signed on at the event at which the Cover shot was taken?

Guys

thanks for the reply and sorry to hijack this post, yes i have the original photo and remember taking it earlier this year, I was signed on as official media for Time Attack

Does that help ? I don't want to make a major fuss over this if its going to cause me issues in the future with Brands and MSV but i feel that there is a principle issue here. I have not sold this picture for stock

Any advice would be grateful

cheers

Nigel

Never having been signed on for a media vest, I might be talking out of my bum. My immediate advise would be to look at any paperwork that you signed, there might be a clause in there where the circuit can use any of your shots as they see fit.

If you've signed away your rights in this way, then it's just a learning experience.

I didn't keep a copy of the programme, were you photo credited for the shot? I seem to remember the internal shots were.

Nigel, have replied via PM so as not to hijack this any further.

Pete,

Some nice shots there, however some of the tilting is a bit too extreme IMHO and 1 to 4 would have been a lot nicer if the car's didn't all have bits chopped off them.

I hope that mechanic doesn't see that shot...he'll hunt you down forever

I didn't mind the hi-jack...

Many thanks Geoff for the kind words. Yep, the focal length was probably a bit long in those cases, I have more conventional angles though. I know that using a short tele prime is a bit unconventional in this circumstance, but I was really pleased by the sharpness of the shots it produced. Unfortunately, I wasn't signed off as media, so was restricted where I could place myself. Inside the start of the apex of Druids seemed to be the best spot.

It was my first go at anything like this, so I still have a great deal to learn.
