Glass is where its at. Given the choices available, I picked the 10-22 choice. It is a neat lens for what I do. For what you like to do, I have no idea.

Glass.. glass... glass..
There is almost no difference between the XTi and the 40D IQ wise and the 10-22 or the 17-55IS is going to make a huge improvement IQ wise based on your current lens list. |

Go for the Glass then upgrade the body.
Also check out the Sigma 10-20mm for a great Ultra wide, that will save you some money towards the 18-55 IS --Evan
