Cleaning up the terrace on Sunday morning, I swept this fellow up in my dustpan -- doesn't seem the worse for wear, fortunately. He's about 1.5 inches long. I took some studio shots and then dropped him back in the garden on one of the brighter, smaller-leafed plants. He's the first brown mantis I've seen here...

this all the same fellow the second and fourth shots are very funny hopping up the way they do (how are you all bearing up in the heat which you mentioned in your last post ) the colours are gorgeous in the last two shots and in the third last one eyebrow is raised ... questioning your movements (would'nt you) beautiful luminous shade of blue (him being browned off) really wonderful shots considering their size thanks Don glad you shovelled him up for a short while

Neat shots. I recently saw a brown one like this and took some pictures as well. It was the first one I had seen (brown), now I've seen two!

Thank you... yes, it's all the same fellow, looking quite different out-of-doors and inside. We're bearing up with the heat in the time-honored way: turning up the air conditioning. One of the most amazing things about Hong Kong is that you can scorch on the pavement and freeze during lunch -- the restaurants are just frigid. One of the side benefits, however, is that as you walk along the sidewalk waves of cold air spill out over you from the open shop doors. Lovely. Don |
