Canon U.S.A. to Exhibit Two New Telephoto Lenses Under Development at PhotoPlus Expo Monday October 15, 1:00 pm ET LAKE SUCCESS, N.Y.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Canon U.S.A., Inc., a leader in digital imaging, today announced the development of two all-new telephoto lenses for use with its EOS SLR cameras: the EF200mm f/2L IS USM*/** and the EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM*/**. The Company will exhibit prototypes of the new lenses at PhotoPlus Expo (booth #31 The new Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM and EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM, both of which are L (luxury)-series lenses incorporating a high-performance Image Stabilizer, feature optical systems utilizing special optical materials such as fluorite to correct chromatic aberrations, making possible high-resolution, high-contrast shooting performance. The Canon EF200mm f/2L IS USM, targeting users who seek a brighter lens for portraiture and indoor sports photography, realizes a large aperture of f/2. The EF800mm f/5.6L IS USM, expected to deliver telephoto performance surpassing the current top-of-the-line EF600mm f/4L IS USM super telephoto lens, is being developed in response to requests from users working in the fields of sports and news photography who are looking for a high-performance lens that offers a longer focal length. since you posted this first, sure you can have a free copy of the 800mm lens when it comes out ... all you need to do is email my friend in nigeria your name, address and bank account information and he will transfer the millions into your account.
This way you can buy as many as you like !!!! haha on a serious note though i do agree, id hate to see the price of that one. im guessing in the $9,000 range ??

2 long overdue lenses. The 200 f/1.8L has been out of production for, what, 5-6 years now? And Sigma's 300-800 is no longer the only option at 800mm for Canon shooters.

I bet that 200 will be unbelievably heavy
I'm frankly surprised about the 800 though. The 600 with a 1.4 is the same thing, correct? |

Pretty much, but it means the new 800mm with a 2x @ 1600mm should be optically as good as the 600mm with 2x @ 1200mm...
Likewise the 800mm with a 1.4x @ 1120mm will optically put the smack down on the 600mm with the 2x @ 1200mm
