Light trails

With a difference.

Hi guys
Had a go at taking some light trails last night.I didn't really know what to expect(if anything).There are a couple of variations in the way to do this but i decided to concentrate on just the light trails and not bother with including the car interior as well.It certainly gave me an idea of what will work better the next time I give it a try.Here's a few of the pics.Definitely won't be everyones cup of tea(1 reply will probably be good going) but I quite like some of them and more importantly I can see some real potential for much better shots.

















Last one is a bit different but I thought I'd include it anyway.

I like the shots I get the feeling of speed and movement hope to see more.

Try to find a "main street" or something similar with a lot of signs, neon, etc. Set up a tripod in the car and let it go for 5-6 seconds, at 20mph it will look like 150. Here is an example, this was down in Canal Park in Duluth, MN. I know it's small, it's all I had here at work.

I love these, were they handheld or did you set a rig up next to you whilst driving?

Thanks for the comments.I'll probably include the car interior the next time that I try this.I didn't actually want the car interior in the shots this time.I was going for a different kind of shot.Thats also why I only used a 2 sec shutter speed.I wanted to keep some detail in the buildings.
Cerbera-I just placed the camera on the car dashboard and fitted a remote release.I just then fired the camera when the location looked promising.I used the 24-105 at 24mm,manual focus,2 sec ss and f8.IS was switched on.

Thanks for the reply. Might give it a try tomorrow ! Would love to get some large size prints of this style of photograhy. Also light trains from a fixed position like in your last picture.
I think i'll try the dash for a few. I have some double size sticky pads i can use to hold the camera in place somewhat. And i could try and bodge my tripod so it fixes the camera into place in the back of the car maybe. Hmm, food for thought ! Look forward to seeing more of your pics like this!
