Question books about performing arts photography

i'm looking for books on perfroming arts photography, especially music photography (live and promo) i'm not really searching for stuff about technique (although i'd welcome suggestions in that field also), but more something like a historical overview about it. does anyone of you know any books which might be of interest? or websites or articles?

thx in advance

Maybe a photo book about U2 would be a good place to start?

You can find books of individual photographers' work. I have a couple Charles Peterson books. If you're talking rock music photography, Annie Leibovitz and other early Rolling Stone photographers might be worth looking into. There are a couple Rolling Stone retrospective type books that might be worth looking at also. One is The Rolling Stone Encyclopedia of Rock, and the other is Rolling Stone: Cover to Cover, which gives you back issues on DVD. They aren't about photography specifically, but if you're looking for examples and not reading material, they are somewhat interesting.

I purchased several books through Amazon.com... There are some about individual bands and performers, and a few historical ones too... Rather than recommend any particular book, I'd recommend using the Amazon.com "Book Section" and searching through it... There are many used books in this area too... I'd recommend reading the sample pages offered in the "book description/contents/glossary" section.

Frankly, I flipped through most of them and find that this forum is actually more informative than any of the books... We are so far advanced through the use of EOS Digital SLR's and real fast low light lenses, that most of the books available offer old, outdated info., including some pretty average picture samples.

Price wise, the historical stuff is most expensive... I have one about a successful film photog. that cost over $80... Won it in a photography contest... It's old technology, and will only serve as a collector's item, with little to contribute to today's needs.
So give the amazon search engine a try... there are a small bunch of books related to this area... Cheers.
