Some very nice shots. Shots 1,4 and 5 are clearly the best captures.

I like shot #1 the most, nice and tight. The image does appear to be washed out for colors (atleast on my monitor). If you could get the colors to pop, this image would be awesome.

I like the crop in #4, the colors look good and the shot is really a good action shot.

#5 is nice and tight. Similar to image #1, the colors looked washed out.

You're right about the colors. Dark skinned players in midday sun with helmets are the toughest to shoot.
I played with dark and shadows, and fill light in LR to get the face detail. Otherwise it was too dark.

Many you make want to get a 1D.

IMHO the original was a little washed out so below is a workup with the players faces adjusted via a layer masks - I worked on each face separately. Then I added a curves layer to readjust the dark point in the image.
