Default HELP! Lint inside the lens

Anyone got info for removing the G1 lens so I can remove this spec?

Its not affecting the pictures as far as I can tell but it bugs me to no end for it to be there!

Thanks for any info

A reply to my post about speck on lens: Yes, I agree that our two questions bring no answers. This form has many G1 users, but I can only guess no lens specialists. I took my camera to a repair shop that said scratches on the outer lens are much less a problem than any specks or blemishes on the inner lenses. The closer the defect is to the aperture the problem will be worse, he said. I also talked to a cousin of mine from Chile who is a photo buff and very well educated and here is his response to my question about a scratch on the lens:

In simple words: it affects, but depends on the % surface of the lens
affected by the "speck" but must be really small but if you have
warranty and all that stuff and it is no much trouble to get it changed,
Do it.

Not in Simple words: you can guess if the lens is for example 50 millimeters diameter like my Vivitar Lens when you calculate the area of the lens ....
Radius = Diameter /2 = 25
Area = Radius * Radius * Pi = 1963.5 mm2 of surface ........

If the Speck is 3 by 1 mm means that have 3 mm2 of surface round 0.15 % of distortion ( FOR A 50 mm LENS!!!!)

I just see your camera seems to have a lens of about 1" inch in diameter ...... do the math if you want but my recommendation is the same.

"but I can only guess no lens specialists" maybe there are! I have built many telescopes and ground many lenses and mirrors over the years. Dust in or on a lens usually doesn't effect resolution or light gathering but it can and does effect contrast. The more dust the lesser the contrast this is generally cause by light scattering. Dust inside a lens can also go astray and end up were it shouldn't! There should be no dust in a new camera lens, take it back and bitch! you paid good money for a quality instrument and dust is not part of the deal.

Hi I got several questions if you don't mind, is it true that using a shirt to wipe the lens of your camera could damage your lens? If so how much damage will it do to your lens, is it fixable? Please let me know and thanks in advance

Cotton is quite rough material (put it under a microscope and you'll see) so it gradually might wear out the coating of the lens. Get a good microfibre cloth and keep it in your pocket all times.

If a lens is slightly "unclean" it's not good to rub it all day long with any material - anything will wear out the coating if used too much. Clean it only when absolutely needed. Better still, don't touch the lens when shooting and get a Lensmate - it'll keep it out of dirt quite well.

Better yet, keep the microfibre cloth in place where it can not get any additional dirt on it. In pockets, if not sealed in some kind of enclosure, the cloth will find anything from sand grains to that very special touch with used handkerchief.

Point is, do not let the cloth used for cleaning lenses to get in touch with anything that could stick on the cloth and harm the lenses. One wipe with microfibre cloth with a small hard particle can mean one scratch on the lens, one scratch that's deeper than any coatings.

I have worn prescription glasses most of my life, and I learned one important lesson early on. It's pointless to try to clean a lens if your hands are not really clean.

If at all possible, I wash my hands carefully with soap before I get near a camera. Hands don't have to be "dirty" to leave oily fingerprints on lenses.
